Chapter Seven
“God damn, it’s good to see you.”
Yancey found himself swallowed up in Brody’s strong embrace. He returned it, pounding his brother’s back. “Good to see you too.”
“Hey, try not to squeeze the living daylights out of him, Brody. I like my guys slender, but not squished flat,” Juan joked from where he stood, having greeted Les and Randy already.
“Sorry. Just missed my little brother that’s all.” Brody stepped back, then went to give Juan a hug. “And how is my other little brother doing?”
Juan grimaced, but accepted the hug. “I’m fine, though I think you bruised my ribs. Where’s Tony?”
“He’s coming in later today. Had to go do some promotional stuff for that new line of cowboy wear he’s endorsing.” Randy snorted. “Never thought I’d see the day when Tony Romanos became a clothes designer.”
Brody shook his head. “Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but Tony’s just becoming a spokesman for them. He doesn’t design it.”
Les cleared his throat. “Let’s get inside. Margie said dinner should be ready in about thirty minutes. We can have a drink in the living room.”
“Margie’s here?” Yancey glanced over at Juan, and they both smiled at the thought of being able to see Les’ housekeeper.
“Yes, she is. In fact she insisted on coming with us. I told her, if she came, it would be a vacation for her as well, but she didn’t seem to have heard me. I was planning on hiring someone to cook for us.” Les shook his head. “I should’ve known better. She wanted to see you two, but she’s not about to trust anyone else.”
Yancey bolted through the front door, pausing long enough to take his boots off before padding towards the back of the house. He figured the kitchen had to be back there somewhere. He heard Juan following him, and he glanced over his shoulder to smile at his lover.
“I can’t believe we get to see Margie as well,” he said and Juan nodded.
“I know. I figured I wouldn’t be able to see her until Christmas time.”
“I thought that might have been what happened, which is why I insisted on coming with Master Les and the others.”
Yancey looked back around to see Margie standing in the doorway. Grinning, he wrapped his arms around the woman and gave her a quick hug. He loved the way she always seemed to smell of cinnamon and bread. She embraced him back, holding on with surprisingly strong arms. Margie had started to show her age, but she was still healthy and vital.
“Great to see you, Margie. Has Les being treating you right? If not, we have a room you can use at our place.” Juan joked as he hugged Margie.
“Master Les is treating me just fine, Juan, and I’m sure you could find a nice lady to cook for you if you were actually looking.” Margie stepped back, then patted Juan on the cheek.
“But we don’t want any other woman. We want you. No one makes chocolate chip cookies like you do.
